You can’t beat the location!
The Arenal Kioro is located very close to the vulcano and there’s a marvelous 360 degree view from all rooms. Besides the well-trimmed garden just outside the rooms is a beautiful setting in front of the vulcano wirh lots of birds and mammals. The pool area is average - both in size and quality. The rooms are huge and well-equipped with a luxurious king size bed. On top, we had our private spa. The maintenance/cleaning staff and staff in reception were extremely customer focused and helpful.
The major issue we had with this hotel was in fact the restaurant - both the interior that seemed to be from the late 80’s, non-attentive waiters and the old-school food itself. Even though the waiters presented what they thought was very posh, we received a strange combination of elements on our plates. The restaurants favorite element is mashed potato that was in every dish. To add to the poor review the food is quite expensive. We only ate in the restaurant the evening we arrived but tried the barbecue at the pool restaurant on our last night - also a big disappointment!
The included breakfast was again inspired from the 80’s - a very boring and greasy help-yourself buffet. The only light in all this canteen environment was the “egg lady” who could make fresh egg dishes on your request.
All in all - location, location, location and some of the staff is a big big plus to this hotel, but stay away from the restaurant until they neing it up to 2019 standards
