Ferndale House - Phippsburg, Maine. Hosted by Of Sea and Pine, Maine Vacation Rentals
Ferndale House is a special retreat nestled in the woods, overlooking the Kennebec River. Owned by a children’s book author, the home is named after the imaginary world where her fictional characters live. Fittingly, the property is surrounded by ferns in the dells and glens, and borders 63 acres of conservation land.
Guests are invited to stroll the shoreline path or explore the whimsical “Dragon Spine” trail, where young hikers can imagine tiptoeing along a dragon’s back. This peaceful, private setting encourages a slower pace, with plenty of space inside and out for families to relax, reconnect, and escape the whirlwind of daily life. Enjoy abundant wildlife and mesmerizing river views from this quiet woodland hideaway.
Though remote in feel, Ferndale House is just a 15-minute drive from Bath, a charming coastal city with restaurants, shops, and essentials.
Please note:
There is no water access at the property. Swimming and boating are not permitted from this location.

📍 Location & Local Charm
Ferndale House is located in the rural town of Phippsburg, with the closest downtown in Bath, a classic New England town on the banks of the Kennebec River. Recognized as a Distinctive Destination by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Bath features historic brick and granite buildings, locally owned restaurants, bakeries, bars, and shops.
Stroll the peaceful side streets to admire beautifully restored 100–200-year-old homes—or hop on the town’s beloved trolley, “Charlie,” to see the sights.
Bath is also home to Bath Iron Works, a world-renowned shipbuilder founded in 1826. We encourage guests to visit the Maine Maritime Museum to learn more about the area’s deep shipbuilding roots.
